The Results

Objective:

    • Surpass last year's number of entries by forging a partnership with a local media outlet to strengthen exposure
    • Promote responsible water use to a younger audience
    • Increase awareness of Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) for Truckee Meadows students and their families
    • Increase the amount of incentives to potential entrants

Describe project:

The TMWA Responsible Water Use: It's the Right Thing to Do! Poster Art Contest began as a way to spread the importance of responsible water use to not only adults in our community, but to the growing minds of all our Washoe County School District (WCSD) students. The campaign begins with the mailing of almost 60,000 letters and entry forms to all students, teachers and principals in the Truckee Meadows area. Most entries are submitted by classes, 30 to 40 students at a time or individual students with help from their parents. Judged by local professionals ranging from WCSD to TMWA to local advertising agencies, three winners are crowned in three different categories: Kindergarten to third grade, fourth to sixth grade and seventh to eighth grade. These nine winners are presented with United States savings bonds under their name and Mega Passes from Wild Island Family Adventure Park at TMWA's monthly Board meeting.

Outcome:

• Increased entries by 25% over the previous year
• Increased media coverage by partnering with Family Pulse Magazine
• Increased incentives of nine Mega Passes donated from Wild Island Family Adventure Park
